✨ The Short Version ✨
ScrollWizard does not collect your personal information.
Your books are yours — they and your reading data stay on your device and in your iCloud.
ScrollWizard is an EPUB and PDF reader for iOS. It is designed to respect your privacy. The app does not require an account, does not contain advertising, and does not track you across apps or websites. Below is a detailed explanation of how the app handles data.
📱 Data Stored on Your Device
All of the following data is stored locally on your device and is never sent to us or any third party:
- Books and documents — EPUB and PDF files you import.
- Reading progress — bookmarks, highlights, annotations, and your current position in each book.
- Reading statistics — pages read, reading sessions, and time spent reading.
- App settings — themes, font preferences, and other configuration.
- Vocabulary words — words you look up and save in your personal vocabulary.
- OPDS catalog credentials — if you connect to an OPDS catalog that requires a login, your username and password are stored in the iOS Keychain, which is encrypted by the operating system. We never see these credentials.
☁️ iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, ScrollWizard can sync your books and reading data across your Apple devices. Book files (EPUB and PDF) live in a folder visible to you in iCloud Drive. Reading data (progress, bookmarks, highlights, saved vocabulary, and settings) is synchronised through your iCloud account via CloudKit. (Your RSVP reading history stays on the device — it moves only through a manual backup export, not iCloud sync.)
All of this data is stored in your personal iCloud account, managed by Apple. We do not have access to your iCloud data. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
🌐 Third-Party Network Requests
Dictionary Lookups
When you look up a word definition in the reader, the word is sent to the
Free Dictionary API
(api.dictionaryapi.dev) to retrieve its
definition. No personal information, device identifiers,
or reading context is sent with these requests — only the word itself.
This data is used solely to provide you with dictionary definitions.
If you prefer to avoid any network requests for dictionary lookups, you can use the bundled offline dictionary instead. This is configurable in the app's Dictionary settings.
The dictionary popup also offers optional web dictionary sources — Wiktionary, Merriam-Webster, and Oxford — as one-tap lookups. They are present from the start, but nothing reaches them in the background: a request happens only when you tap one. Tapping opens that dictionary's website in an in-app browser view with only the word in the address. That view is sandboxed — ScrollWizard can't read what's inside it. You can remove or disable any of them in the Dictionary settings.
OPDS Catalog Browsing
ScrollWizard supports OPDS catalogs, which are third-party book servers that you can configure in the app. When you browse an OPDS catalog, requests are sent to the server URL you have configured. If the catalog requires authentication, your credentials (stored locally in the iOS Keychain) are included in those requests. We do not operate these servers and have no control over how they handle your data. Only connect to OPDS servers that you trust.
Looking Up a Book on Goodreads
The book details screen has a Look Up on Goodreads button. Tapping it opens your external browser to a Goodreads search for that book's title and author. Nothing is sent unless you tap it — and only the title and author go into the search.
📊 Crash Reporting (Opt-In)
ScrollWizard uses Sentry for crash reporting. This is disabled by default and only activated if you choose to enable it in Settings.
When enabled, the following anonymous, non-identifying data may be sent to Sentry:
- Crash reports and stack traces
- Device model, OS version, and app version
- A short trail of recent in-app activity (breadcrumbs) — scrubbed of book titles, file names, and web addresses before it ever leaves your device
None of this identifies you. No name, email address, IP address, account, or installation/device ID is attached — and no book titles or reading content are included. Reports aren't linked to you, and the app sends no identifier that could link them. You can disable crash reporting at any time in Settings, and no further data will be sent.
Crash data is processed on Sentry's servers in the European Union (Germany).

🖥️ This Website
This website is served by a third-party hosting provider located in the European Union. To deliver a page, that provider receives the usual server-log data — your IP address and the details of your request — which it processes under a data-processing agreement to serve the site to you.
The website itself runs no analytics and sets no cookies, and its fonts are served from this site rather than from a third party (so no font provider sees your request either).
💰 In-App Purchases
ScrollWizard offers an optional one-time purchase ("Advanced Wizard Mode") processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store any payment information. Purchase transactions are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

📦 Your Data, Your Choice
Export: You can export all your data (highlights, annotations, vocabulary, statistics) at any time from Settings.
Delete: ScrollWizard stores data in two places: your book files in the ScrollWizard folder in iCloud Drive, and your reading data (settings, bookmarks, highlights, vocabulary, reading positions) in iCloud's CloudKit — a separate store. For a complete erase, use Delete All Data in Settings ▸ Data Management: it purges the synced CloudKit data, deletes your book files, and wipes this device's local copy in one step. Deleting the app clears only the local copy, and removing the ScrollWizard folder from iCloud Drive (your device's Files app or icloud.com) removes only the book files — neither erases the synced reading data on its own.
🧒 Children's Privacy
ScrollWizard does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app does not require an account and does not collect identifying data.
